John Head

Since Slade released Mama Weer All Crazee Now in 1972, I have always been drawn towards the “rockier” genres of music. My teenage years were spent listening to Alan “Fluff” Freeman on the radio, which broadened my taste and also gave me an awareness and appreciation of classical music, due to his use of it in show jingles. I’d also like to think that he’s had an effect on the way I present Headz Up.

Captain Maniac

For 50 years, I was a drummer and sometimes lead vocalist for Vancouver's ultimate party-rockers, Sparkling Apple (their speciality: "drunk rock", which you had to be drunk to play and drunk to appreciate). Nowadays, furthering my tradition of musical life, yours truly is a podcasting/Internet radio DJ and graphic artist, with my own program entitled "The Captain Maniac Show" -- imaginative or what? Rather than subject listeners to one particular genre of music, typical presentations cover a wide spectrum of rock and roll, from 60s British Invasion to Rockabilly to 50s rockers to Psychedelic Oldies and all points in between.
