Deal Radio Street Side Radio For The World
Deal Radio Splashed into 2022 early at the Boxing Day Dip at Deal Beach this year!
The 2021 Boxing Day Dip was organised by the Deal Rotary Icebreakers and was held at the end of the year on 26th December 2021 at 11am.
What a spectacular splash it WAS with Deal Radio Stars Deal Starman and Michelle Duncan bravely volunteering to jump into the freezing cold sea temperatures to raise awareness for local charities and ALSO encourage our listeners to ‘donate a cup of coffee’ (by way of raising funds) for Deal Radio.
It’s still not too late to click on this link to donate to Deal Radio to keep the station studio and it’s hard working Team going!
As a reminder ALL our presenters, participants and tech team are Volunteers!
By way of background:
2021 was the 40th Anniversary of the original ‘Dip’: In 1981 and The Rotary Club of Deal were delighted to be able to continue embracing the aims and traditions of Margaret Edwards and the original team – ensuring 100% of the events proceeds are donated to LOCAL charities and good causes.
This yearly event originated from a dare in 1981 with three CB enthusiasts with the appropriate handles “Melba Toast”, “Channel Swimmer” and “Posh John”. The dip on that first day raised money and gave them the enthusiasm with the co-operation of families and friends to make this an annual event.
Since then the event has grown to more than 200 dippers taking part each year and it also attracts tourists and visitors dipping from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Greece and our neighbours from across the waters in France. Some competitors have even used the dip as preparation before they take on the Channel Swim!
After almost 40 years hard work the founders approached the Rotary Club of Deal about upholding the aims of the team with 100% of the profits being made available to support local good causes – Rotary Club of Deal members and all their volunteers all work without charge also.
Another proud moment for Deal Radio – collaborating once more with organisers to support local ventures towards important community aims!
Marc Carey, Director of Deal Radio, when asked to comment at the event said “Watch this space we are ALL going IN next year”!
I stayed firmly on the beach in a large winter coat and woolly hat – reporting solely from behind the video camera!
Hope you enjoy the photos captured and clicking on the video links!
